About
The Full Story
Our vision is to empower African creatives who will bring to life African stories through Animation, Film & Design both home & abroad.
This community was formed with the agenda to unite African creative individuals from as many African nations as possible. This community was founded by Victoria Joel, creative practitioner with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Animation from two universities in the UK. She's an African descent currently residing in England, United Kingdom.
With "Kehillah" being the hebrew word for "community" or "congregation", this creative community was birthed so that as African creatives, we can share creative ideas and work on creative projects with the mission of promoting African stories and preserving African cultures and values. This mission is to be achieved through Animation, Filmmaking, Games, Photography and many more. In our academy, the training methods we hope to provide are workshops, masterclasses, development programmes and networking events all around creativity.
The purpose of this community is to establish a platform where opportunities for black creatives across the world is shared and we can raise more Africans having interest in the creative industry. This is a space for networking, sharing information that will develop our creative practice and building an environment where African storytelling and creativity thrives.
Our Aim:
What we hope to achieve in Kehillah Studios/Academy is to create a community where African creatives, who are also believers, come together and produce creative visuals to promote African storytelling, christian values and moral ethics. Africa is a continent full of talent, rich in diverse cultures and traditions and own uniques stories that deserve a global recognition. We believe it is important to keep pushing African storytelling out through animation/filmmaking for African children to reduce their reliance on foreign content for entertainment and to have characters they can connect to and so they’ll not forget their African heritage. It’s also important to have original stories that can inform and teach westerners about the African culture and we'll have negative narratives of Africa reduced.
We want as many African creatives around the world to be connected through this platform to network with like-minded creatives, have their creative practice developed as well as learning new skills. This academy is also open to experienced animators, filmmakers, photographers, musicians and graphic designers as we plan to collaborate with experienced creatives that will assist in providing knowledge and training based on their expertise and artistic background.
